Fish and wine

When serving fish, it is generally recommended that it is paired with a dry, white wine, something that will complement the fish’s unique flavour. What tends to go well with fish and other seafood is Chablis, Muscadet, or Chenin Blanc. If you prefer a wine that is less dry try a Sauvignon Blanc or Rose.

This is what some of our customers say

Dear All, Thank you very much for the excellent service. I haven’t seen the orchid but it arrived promptly and it sounds like it’s had the desired effect. Thank you, Jonpaul

Fish and wine is a delicious combination. There are many possibilities for pairing wine with fish. Many fish dishes are paired with white wines, though there are plenty of exceptions to this rule. The following are a few fish and wine pairings you might try out:

Flounder

Flounder is a light and delicate fish that is versatile and popular. This type of fish goes well with Pinot Blanc, Chablis, and Valpolicella. Flounder fish and wine, most often white, is a classic and delicious pairing.

Salmon

Salmon is an example of a fish that is often not paired with white wines. It may be paired with a rose or a more full bodied red. Some wines that pair nicely with salmon are Pinot Noir, Provencal Rose, Bourgueil and Chardonnay.

Bass

Bass is often prepared as thick and hearty steaks which are sometimes stuffed. It can be broiled, baked, or grilled, all with excellent results. Wines such as Voignier, Soave, Sauvignon Blanc, or Chardonnay make great pairings with bass dishes.

Sole

Sole is one of the most versatile fish out there. It goes very well with all kinds of side dishes and sauces. It can be served with pasta, potatoes, vegetables, and even fruit. Some wines to consider with sole are Reisling, Chablis, Semillion, Pinot Grigio and Soave.

Fried Fish

Fried fish is a fish dish that is a bit more down to earth. In keeping with this spirit you might want to consider serving fried fish with sparkling wine. Other wines that work well here are Soave and Vinho Verde.
