Italy is the second largest wine producer in the world. With over a million wineries scattered across 20 wine regions, there are also more than 350 kinds of grapes and over 500 varieties used for wine production. Italy produces 20% of the total worldwide wine production.

Italian wines are divided into four categories, two of which are in accordance with European Union ?Qualified Wine Produced in a Specific Region (QWPSR)? designation, and the other two designated as ?table wines.? ?Vino da Tavola (VDT)? and ?Indicacion Geografica Tipica (IGT)? fall under the table wines category, while the ?Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC)? and ?Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG)? are EU QWPSR designations.

Italian wines strictly follow these designations, with 120 IGT, 311 DOC, and 32 DOCG designations. The categorization of Italian wines ensures the quality of the wine and protection for the consumers. DOGC designated Italian wines have to pass a blind test in order to conform to the legal requirements of the Italian appellation system.

Among foreigners, some of the more famous Italian wines include Asti, Chianti, Soave, Barolo, and Barbaresco. Asti, Barolo and Barbaresco are from the Piedmont region. Chianti is from Tuscany while Soave is from the Veneto region. All of these wines can be ordered online through Serenata Wines and delivered straight to your home. With an eye for quality from choosing the wines to the assurance of a next-weekday delivery, Serenata Wines has the best service. Serenata Wines also has a no questions asked guarantee for a replacement or full refund if the customer is not satisfied.
